Hey, fellas.. Give me a little feedback on the mix of this tune. I tend to mix the drums a little hot when I'm given the reigns. This is my first time mixing and would like to know what you thought on this first tune that I am in the process of getting done.

I would either put some more 'verb on the drums or take some off of the lead guitar. Overall, the drums (kick snare ride and hats) are a little hot in the mix.

Try mixing with a loud listening level and then mix with the volume way down too.

But, having said all that, it sounds very cool. Mixing is subjective anyway....

Dont think the drums are too hot much. They seem designed to be the forefront of the tune (correct me if i'm wrong). Guitar could be a little louder though, IMO. Maybe a touch more reverb on that snare, just to give it more presence.

I also think your playing is just a touch on the untidy side. I dont know whether it's just that take or what, but i suggest a little bit of light editing just to realign a few things (the hihat isn't as perfect as i'd like). Because the drums are so much at the front of the mix picture (which i like), they need to be spot on. I also thought at times you were sitting back on it, when it should have been up and perky in front. But it's all minor details on a pretty pro sounding track.

Also i reckon a bit more verb/delay on the keyboard just to cover up the untidyness there. Reminds me a lot of Torre Fuerte, this. Not that i was ever really into them, but that sort of progressive fusion sound is very reminiscent of them.

Keep at it and post some more stuff!

LDGuy- Ok, that's what I was wondering. I didn't want the drums to be the most prominent. And what I was afraid of happening, happened. I wasn't too concerned about the untidyness, however, since you noticed, I'll have to take the drums back in the mix. (I'm not redoing them) the first time, I did the drums on my own with no other music, then everyone added their parts, THEN I did a second take, THEN, the keyboardist redid his solo, THEN the guitarist wanted to redo some stuff. At that point, I thought enough is enough. I didn't want to redo it again, it gets expensive. How much did it bother you? Thanks for your honesty, it's all cool.
